Situated in the heart of the townships, Khayelitsha Special School is an establishment that dedicates itself to accommodating children with multiple disabilities. These children, primarily intellectually disabled and hampered by learning disabilities, often have secondary problems such as cerebral palsy, epilepsy and developmental delays.
To empower learners to rise above their challenges through offering a high and valued support service.
On 12 November 2013 the Vocational & LSEN Phase held an awards ceremony for the learners of their phase. Learners were awarded for excellence in mathematics, home language, life-skills, good behavior, diligence, helpfulness, regular school attendance, crafts, hospitality, netball, soccer & athletics.
On 25 October 2013 our school hosted a Valedictory ceremony for the school leavers. 18 learners will graduate from our school and set sail to various protective workshops and the open labour market.

On 13 September 2013 our school hosted a pageant called "Mr. & Ms. K1" for fundraising purposes. There were 20 contestants of which 3 males and 3 females won special prizes. All contestants received a gift for participation.
A group of volunteers from MTN joined our school as part of the 21 days of Y'ello Care on the 19th of June 2013. They donated 2 swings for the learners and therapeutic equipment like trampolines, balls, tricycles, therapy mats, hoolahoops, etc. The volunteers painted the jungle Jim and the tarmac of the play area. They also provided the school with a MTN school name sign outside the school. The volunteers made delicious lunch for the learners and spent the rest of the day interacting with them.
